Lights Out solving notes

A good way to solve Lights Out is to work from the top down. Once you leave a row, avoid touching it again and use the row below to switch off any lights still above.

Strategy

Chase the lights down the board

Random clicking can undo a good move two seconds later. A steadier method starts at the top. For every lit tile in the first row, press the tile directly below it. Then repeat the same process for each row.

This pushes the remaining pattern toward the bottom without disturbing rows you have already cleared. If the last row stays lit, reset and try a different set of presses across the first row.

Common questions

Lights Out FAQ

How do you play Lights Out?

Press a tile to flip it and its four direct neighbours. Turn every light off to finish the puzzle.

Is every Lights Out puzzle solvable?

The PCder version creates boards by applying legal moves to a cleared grid, so each starting position has at least one solution.

What is the easiest Lights Out strategy?

Work from top to bottom. Press the tile below each light that remains on, then keep moving down the board.

Does the order of moves matter?

No. Pressing the same set of tiles produces the same result in any order.

Does Lights Out save my score?

It saves only your lowest move count in local browser storage. No account is needed.

Can I play Lights Out on PCder from Canada?

Yes. The Canada page keeps Lights Out in a desktop browser format with no installer, clear controls, and source notes. A school, office, or managed network may still block access.
