Fold Escape tips

Fold Escape walkthrough: solve the tutorial in 18 moves

To finish Fold Escape, bring Mica and Sol to their matching exits with the maps open. Folding lets each friend borrow paths from the other map. The tutorial, A little overlap, takes 18 moves: move Mica toward the top, fold, bring both friends home, then open the maps.

Tutorial walkthrough: 18 moves

Choose Tutorial in the level menu, then select Reset before following this route. The map is called A little overlap. Mica starts at the bottom left and Sol starts at the bottom right. Rows run from top to bottom; columns run from left to right.

Move Mica right twice and up four times. Mica reaches row 1, column 3, beside a missing path. Fold the maps, then move Mica right twice to the blue exit. Select Sol and follow the route below. Opening the maps at the end counts as the eighteenth move.

Why will the maps not open?

A friend can walk across a gap while folded if the other map supplies a path at that position. Opening removes the borrowed path. Both friends need valid tiles in their own maps before the game allows the maps to separate.

Check each friend's position against their original map. If either position is a gap, move that friend to a tile that exists on their own side. Doors and switch gates still apply when opening. A switch borrowed from the other map may stop holding a gate after the maps separate.

Both friends can stand at their exits while folded without finishing. Check the goal list beneath the maps. Maps open must also have a check mark, and keyed levels require the key.

Carry the key, but keep a friend on the switch

Either friend can collect a diamond key. Once collected, it opens the diamond doors for both friends and stays collected when the maps open or fold. Undo can return to a position before the key was collected.

A round switch works differently. It opens striped gates only while a friend stands on a switch. Keep one friend there while moving the other through the gate. In Hold the door, Sol's map has a switch in the bottom-left corner. The level preview labels this puzzle Switch gate.

Folding shares special tiles as well as paths. A friend can press a switch borrowed from the other map while folded. Before opening, check whether that friend will still be on a switch in their own world.

Open the maps before crossing a laser stripe

Red striped tiles are safe to cross while the maps are open. Folding activates them as barriers. A stripe on either map blocks that position on the combined map, even if the other side has an ordinary path.

Move off a stripe before trying to fold. For later puzzles such as Lantern lane, plan separate folded and open parts of the route. Find solid ground for both friends, open the maps, cross the stripe, then fold again when both positions are safe.

Use Target to check a shorter route

Target shows the fewest moves from the starting position. Each step and each fold or opening counts once. Switching friends and using Hint do not add moves. A blocked attempt does not add a move either. Undo removes the last step or fold from the count.

The tutorial target is 18. You can finish above that number; there is no move limit. Match the target to earn a shortest route mark in the level menu. Your best completed score stays in this browser when storage is available.

Hint shows the next action from the current position without moving a friend. If the current position has no route to the exits, use Undo or Reset. Reset restarts only the current map; it keeps completed scores and unfinished attempts on other maps.

Common questions

Is this the solution for Level 1, Borrowed bridge?

No. This walkthrough covers Tutorial, A little overlap. The numbered Level 1 is Borrowed bridge and uses a different map. Select Tutorial before following the eighteen-move route.

Do I need a folding phone to play Fold Escape?

No. Use Fold maps on a regular phone, tablet, or computer. On a keyboard, Space or F folds and opens the maps, and arrow keys or WASD move the selected friend.

Why have both friends reached home without completing the level?

The maps must be open, and keyed levels also require the key. Check the goal list beneath the board for a pending item.

Does using Hint prevent a shortest route score?

No. Hint and character selection do not add moves. A shortest route score depends on matching the Target move count when the level is complete.
